The success of these sunglasses, led him to create the brand Persol, whose name in Italian, comes from the use of glasses "for the sun".

The model most famous sunglasses from Persol, the 649, was designed originally for tram drivers in Turin, they needed to protect their eyes from the air and dust. The success that had made ??that were copied by many brands and entered the history when Mastroianni wore in the film "Divorce Italian". Another faithful Persol sunglasses, was the actor Steve McQueen, to celebrate the brand has created a special edition sunglasses, inspired by the ones he used with the characteristic blue lens.

A style icon, the 649 is unique because it features Victorflex with other classic Persol design qualities. Victorflex is a system that gives the bridge maximum flexibility while standing out as an original and iconic design.
Victorflex
Created in the’30s as a derivative of Meflecto, Victorflex is a unique flexible bridge, made by inserting two steel strips into the acetate and cutting three vertical slits on the bridge. Five intricate manual steps are needed for this process. Interestingly, Victorflex is shown to it’s full potential, giving a glimpse of the steel through the acetate, on the patented dappled color Persol frames.
